Thus with the year Seasons return
[by Editor - 6 Oct 2003]

The World Doubles Championship, at the Racquet and Tennis Club, New York and at the Queens Club dominates the early part of this season

After the excitements of last seasons World Singles Championships and James Males Blaine like escape from a seemingly impossible first leg deficit, Doubles(see form below) dominate the early part of this seasons action.

The last World Doubles Challenge took place in 2001,when James Male and Mark Hue Williams defeated the holders Neil Smith and Shannon Hazel at the Racquet Club of Philadelphia and at St Pauls School, five games to love. This years challenge is by Alister Robinson and Guy Barker winners of the Open Doubles for the last two years.

The Public Schools Championship for the Noel Bruce Cup, October 22nd -30th is the first competition of the season and Wellington having waited until 2001 for their first win and then repeated the success last season will be hoping to make it a hat trick. Wellingtons Tim Cockroft and Toby Sawrey Cookson will again be tested by last years runners up Harrow (Harry Foster and Charlie Danby) Eton 1, the brothers Smith-Bingham, and Eton 2 represented by Willie Boone and Neal Bailey.

Last seasons Invitation Singles (Queens Club) 16th-23rd November) was won by James Male but his participation this time is less likely given that the second leg of the World Doubles Challenge takes place the weekend before. Without Male the winner will most probably come from Guy Smith-Bingham, Harry Foster or Alister Robinson

The Amateur Singles which takes place at Queens from the 29th of November to the 7th of December may see Male playing in a Championship which he has already won on twelve occasions. As World Champion he is the obvious favorite for any singles event in which he plays, but the holder Guy Smith-Bingham, Foster and Robinson will also be strong contenders.

The Public Schools Singles takes place at Queens from the 12th to the 17th of December. Last years Colts Champion Joe Bone from Harrow who also won the Public Schools Championships with Peter Dunbar and Cheltenhams Daniel Hall are two of the early favorites for the Foster Cup.

One T&RA initiative to note for the new season, is that of playing both the Open Singles and Doubles over a shorter time to encourage entries from North America , the former from the 31st January to the 8th of February and the latter from March 13th to the 21st March
