St Pauls make the most of home court
advantage
[by dm - 19 Nov 2004]
St Pauls beat Haileybury by four matches to
none
Tom Alway and Mark
Gibbor[St Pauls] beat Tom Hollington and Will
Sheldon[Haileybury]15/5,15/1,15/5,15/5 in the
first pairs match to round off a successful
afternoon for the home team.
James Corbin and Alex
de Giorgio[St Pauls] playing 2nd pair beat Joe
Perry and Will Taylor[Haileybury]
15/2,15/3,15/7, and in the under 15s the home
team of Henry Matson and Tom Hoolahan ,who hits
the ball very hard, beat John de Pledge and
Dave Wilson 15/4,15/4,15/6 , while the St Pauls
under 14 pair, Mark Hine and George Burnes,
beat Sam Billings and Sam Anthony of Haileybury
in the afternoons closest match
17/14,8/15,18/13,15/8.
The first game of the
senior pairs match gave an indication of how
things might go. Mark Gibbor starting at 2 all
had a run of 7 to take St Pauls to 9/2, serving
four aces. On this court, which rewards good
serving, both the home team served well all
through the match. In the next game Mark
started serving and St Pauls were 10/0 ahead
when he was put out having served 7 aces.
Hailebury having won 1 point Always came into
the box and won the next 5 points and the game
serving 4 aces.
The next two games
followed the same pattern and although the
Haileybury pair played well in the rallies,
when they had the chance, anything at all loose
was killed quite clinically by Alway. |
