Rackets Golf
[by Editor - 22 Oct 2004]

Tim and Charlotte Cockroft organised the 2004 Rackets Golf Day at the Berkshire Golf Club to raise money for young racketeers

Tim and Charlotte Cockroft with the invaluable assistance of Karen Waugh, organised , with their usual efficiency, which this year ran to ensuring good weather, The Sport for Sport Rackets golf day at the Berkshire GC. This day, which has become a keenly anticipated annual event amongst the UK rackets fraternity raises money to enable young rackets to players stay in the game after school. 76 players, including for the first time an all female team, turned out on a very blustery but fine day. After the gale force winds of the previous 24 hours the green keepers performed heroically to have the course in great shape for a "shotgun" start at 08.45.

With prizes from Pol Roger, Lacoste and Jo Malone amongst others, the competitive instincts of the assembled players, never far below the surface in rackets company, were aroused. The winning team of Ed Horton, Henry Green, Simon Corben and Adam Fletcher amassed a very creditable 83 points to carry off first prize, beating by two points probably the most competitive of the teams, that led by Willie Boone. The other members were two more left handers, that most unlikely of decent golfers Mark Agate, Alex Titchener-Barrett and Mike Cox bringing a welcome note of dexterity to this most sinister of teams.

The longest drive was won with a prodigious blow of more than 300 yards by Nick Kemp and the nearest the pin prize went to Stewart Dunlop or Dunlop Stewart it never became clear which.
