To every game there is a season….

No World Championship challenges this season means that attention will be closely focused on the results of the tournaments that would give the winners the right to put in for a challenge during the 2006/07 season.

World Champion Harry Foster will need to be on top of his game to keep Guy Smith-Bingham, Tim Cockroft and his defeated World Challenge  opponent Alister Robinson at bay in the singles tournaments and Robinson and Guy Barker, the World Doubles Champions face tough encounters with Smith-Bingham and Cockroft who they defeated by two points in 11 games in last seasons World Doubles challenge and also from Foster and Mark Hue Williams, who beat Smith-Bingham and Cockroft in the final of the Open Doubles by four games to two.

The first contest of the season takes place this weekend at Radley and Eton, when the Amateurs take on the Professionals. See PDF Details

The pick of the games should be David Makey and Peter Brake taking on the Smith-Bingham brothers Guy and Alex.

Wellington College have completely refurbished their rackets court and this will be officially opened on the 16th of October

For the start of the season the T& RA are hoping to have in place a system of online secure payment on the new T&RA website for money coming in to the T&RA. This is specifically targeted at making life easier for the office to collect entry fees for rackets (and achieve a better collection rate). Having gone to the trouble of doing this, James Wyatt is minded to enforce the “no pay-no play” sanction rather more seriously than has been the case in previous years – there can be no reasonable objection or excuse for not paying in advance.
