Harrow play Marlborough and Eton face Malvern The rounds up to the 1/4 finals of the Noel Bruce produced only one real surprise, when 5th seeds Guy Barker and Richard Spender [Marlborough] beat 4th seeds Willie Boone and Alex Smith-Bingham in straight games 15/12,15/5,17/15. Guy Barker, who won last year with regular partner Ali Robinson proved once more what a fine player he can be. The early rounds were marred by the usual crop of walks over, this year 5 in all. This happens every season and it may be time for the powers that be to put this competition later in the fixture list; after all, the other major doubles tournaments [Open and Amateur Doubles] happen in the New Year. Marlborough will now play Harrow 1, Foster and Danby in the semi finals who lost a game to the Haileybury pair of Robert Wakely and Mark Farmiloe. Second seeds Eton 1 Guy Smith-Bingham and Neal Bailey, who themselves lost a game to the young Wellington pair of George Tysoe and James Coyne, will face Mark Hubbard and Ben Bomford of Malvern who have only had to play one match which they won for the loss of only 15 points.Draw
