Harry Foster Jesters Hon Sec Michael Rowan Mark Hue Williams Harry Foster and Mark Hue Williams retained their Amateur Doubles title with a four games to one,4/15,15/4,15/3,15/2,15/7, victory over Tim Cockroft and Charlie Danby. The first game gave little clue to the tops seeds eventual victory as at 3/0 Charlie Danby came into the box and went 11/0 in one hand. Although Harry and Mark got back to 4/11, Cockroft finished off the game, winning the four points necessary taking the last point after a rally of the highest class, all four players making some seemingly impossible gets from full blooded hits. At this stage both Foster and Hue Williams were making more unforced errors than the second seeds. The start of the second game could not have been more different with the World Champion upping the pace to such good effect that he dominated the next four games virtually hitting Cockroft and Danby off the court. Hue Williams, although still looking less secure when he had to play backhand, backed Foster up well serving 11 aces to Fosters 10 Cockroft served 6 and Danby 5. Hue Williams came in at 6/3 and had a run of six points to take the holders to 12/3 and although Cockroft and Danby got back in, they could only manage to win one more point before Foster finished off the game in his next hand. Harry and Mark won the next game in three hands taking a 5/0 lead and then 11/2 and finishing off the game 15/4. The fourth game followed the same pattern, this time Tim and Charlie got into the box three times but only managed the single point. The fifth game was more of a contest with Cockroft and Danby managing to keep on even terms for the first four hands at 6/7 and then 7/10 before Harry once more dominated to take the last five points that were needed for the game and the match.
