St James's Place Masters competitions bring class to the fore

The over 40's singles and doubles, the over 50's and 40's Doubles were dominated by former World Champions. Willie Boone won the single beating William Maltby, who had played heroically to defeat Peter Brake in the 1/4 finals and David Makey in the 1/2 finals. He found the irrepressible Boone too tough in the final.

Boone was runner up himself in his other final, the over 50's doubles, when, partnered by Aidan MacEchern they found former World Champions Howard Angus and John Prenn too tough. Howard also won the over 60's doubles partnered by David Watkins, defeating Peter Brooks and Aidan MacEchern.

The match of the weekend was undoubtedly was the final of the Over 40's Doubles in which John Prenn and James Male beat Rupert Owen-Browne and David Makey in two games which contained some of the most entertaining rallies seen at Queen's all season. James controlled the back of the court whilst Rupert found all his hardest shots returned by John up in front of the service box.
