Mark Hue Williams       Brigadier Andrew Myrtle            Harry Foster

Holders Harry Foster and Mark Hue Williams successfully defended their Lacoste Open  Doubles title at The Queen's Club, with an authoritative victory over Alex Titchener-Barrett and Will Hopton, winning  15/9,15/10,15/9,15/8.

In the semi finals, Foster and Hue Williams beat Neal Bailey and Charlie Danby four games to two,5/15,15/10,15/12,15/9,7/15,15/7 with neither player quite at their best and with the World Champion's movement looking  hampered by his knee injury. Hopton and Titchener-Barrett had reached the final by defeating the second seeded pair of Mark Hubbard and David Makey by four games to one 6/15,15/1,15/8,15/7,15/4, with Hopton playing a pivotal role, playing very steadily and making virtually no unforced errors, admirably supporting the more explosive shot making of his partner.

Unfortunately Will was unable to carry that form into his first major final, in which the superior serving of the first seeds dominated. Harry Foster who always seems able to produce an ace at the right moment served 21 service aces Mark 16, Alex 11, and Will 4. Only at the start of the first game were Hopton and Titchener-Barrett ever ahead taking an 8/1 lead in their first two hands. this advantage was nullified by the winners in their next two service runs reaching eight all in one turn in the box and then taking the game 15/9 in their next go.

After this hard as the losers fought they never headed the champions, who won many points by keeping the ball straight down the walls and finding their opponents out of position. Game 3 produced the best rackets of the match with some closely contested rallies.
